Chat
Through Chat in the menu you reach everyone in your organization. You have to be logged in.
Start a conversation
Choose Chat in the menu and click the plus icon at the top right of the conversation list. You then land on New conversation / message, where you first choose the kind of conversation.
Which kinds you see depends on your role.
As a participant or member:
| Kind | What for |
|---|---|
| Message ... | A private message to the organization |
| Dotoo chat | About one activity, with all attendees and the organizer |
| Group chat | About one group, with all members and the group owner |
| Business channel | The organization's shared updates channel |
As staff or admin:
| Kind | What for |
|---|---|
| Members | The same message at once to one or more of your members |
| Dotoo chat | All attendees of one activity in one place |
| Group chat | All members of one group in one place |
| Business channel | Reach all members of your business at once |
| Direct message | Private chat with one person |
If you choose Members and select multiple people, DoToo tells you after sending how many recipients the message went to. Everyone gets their own conversation; they do not see each other.
A newsletter discussion is also created as soon as someone chooses Discuss on a newsletter.
Start faster from the activity itself
On a dotoo you can choose Actions → Chat. If that dotoo's chat already exists, you jump to it; if not, it is created. At the bottom of a dotoo there is also already a piece of the chat. For a group it works the same way.
Attachments and formatting
Next to the message field there is a plus icon with two options:
- Upload files — attach photos and documents, or pick something from your Media
- Send formatted message — a message with formatting
When you start a new conversation you can attach files right away as well.
Edit or delete a message
Hover over your own message and use the three-dot menu at the top right of the bubble:
- Edit — on an edited message it then shows Edited with the timestamp
- Archive — the message disappears, but the bubble stays with Deleted by you. Others see Deleted by poster
This only works on your own messages.
Search your conversations
Above the conversation list there is a search field. DoToo searches in your Chats and in the Messages themselves at the same time, so you can also search for a word from a conversation. If you click a found message, the conversation jumps to that point.
Unread messages
Next to Chat in the menu is the number of unread messages. New messages also come in as a notification. When you open a conversation, it is marked as read.
E-mail notifications
By default you get an e-mail for direct messages, messages from or to an organization, and messages in a business channel. For dotoo chats, group chats, and newsletter discussions that is off by default, because those are often busier.
Contact with DoToo itself
Questions for DoToo do not go through regular chat but through the support page. See Support and help center.
